Miss Teresa's Kindergarten

My daughters!

My spoiled Yorkie, Callie!

All About Me

I wanted to tell you a little about me for those of you who do not know me. My maiden name was Teresa Taylor. I grew up in Dyer and graduated from GCHS in 1983. In 1987, I graduated from UTM with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After substitute teaching a year in preschool thru high school, I began my first full time teaching position here at Rutherford in 1988. In 1989, I married my high school sweetheart-Mike Fuqua. We have two daughters. Anna Paige is in ninth grade at GCHS, and Taylor Beth is in seventh grade at our school. We are all members of First Baptist Church in Dyer. We built a new house in Rutherford in 2004. We also have a very spoiled Yorkie named Callie.

This will be my 20th full year of teaching. One year I taught a first-
second grade split. One year I taught all first grade. Two years I taught kindergarten-first grade splits, and for the past fifteen years I have taught all kindergarten. I am a firm believer in the importance of this year in a child's life. As we built our house, I was reminded of how important a strong foundation is. It is my goal to help your child build a strong foundation this year upon which many years of future learning and successes will be added in their educational careers. My husband sells chemicals and seeds to farmers at Helena Chemical Company, and he reminds me of how important proper seed planting is. I also hope to plant seeds of a love of learning in my students' hearts this year.

Our Schedule

We will have a busy year as we learn. Monday, Wednesday and Friday we have P.E. in the gym with Ms. Vicki Kuglar. Please remember to have your child wear tennis shoes on these days.

Every other Tuesday we have guidance with Ms. Lisa Brewer, and we have art on Thursday with Ms. Maria Lackey. Music is on Tuesday morning with Ms. Valerie Sanderson. We also go to library on Monday and our librarian, Ms. Suzanne McCurdy, reads to us. Each morning we have opening activities which include calendar discussions, weather, pledge, songs, money counting, and other drills. (Right now we are working on reading our classmates names and learning our birthdays.)We also have phonics, letter songs, and letter and writing practice and small group reading time each morning. After lunch each
day, we have Reading, storytime and Math before nap. Many Science and Social Studies skills are incorporated with the letter we are studying each week, our opening activities and our stories. We go to computer lab three days a week. Students work on our Riverdeep program in this time. After nap, we have playtime before time to go home. As you can tell, we share busy days together!!!

I have taught many of your older children, and I know what a supportive group of parents you are!!!!!!!! You have sent me a terrific group of kids, and I'm looking forward to us making many happy memories together this year !
